J. Dennis Marek

James Dennis Marek was born in Chicago, Illinois, February 19, 1943. He attended DePauw University and Durham University, England, receiving his undergraduate degree in 1964. He attended Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, graduating in 1967 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar that year.

Marek worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. and then enlisted in the United States Air force in 1968. After completing his military service, he returned to Kankakee, Illinois and joined the firm of Ackman, McKnelly, Reagan and Taube in 1970.

Marek served as the Iroquios County Public Defender from 1971 to 1980. He is also admitted to the Central District of Illinois Federal Court and the United State Tax Court.

Marek is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and has served on numerous Illinois State Bar committees, the latest being the Downstate Judicial Evaluation Committee. He is also a facilitator of Circuit Judges for the Illinois Supreme Court. He has served as President of the Kankakee County Bar Association.

Mr. Marek is a member of the American Bar Association and is an American Bar Fellow. He was elected a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1991, a fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 1990 and the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys since 1989. He is a member of the Illinois Defense Trial Counsel and served on its Board of Directors from 1993 to 2004. He has been named a “Super Lawyer” by Chicago Magazine for the State of Illinois for the last nine years.

Marek has taught at American International College, the Illinois Defense Trial Academy and has been an adjunct professor for Kankakee Community College where he was also a Trustee for 17 years. He has lectured for various continuing legal education seminars.

Mr. Marek has been published in the American College of Trial Lawyers magazine authoring an article entitled “Building a Legal System in the 21st Century Russia.”

Marek is the senior partner in the firm and specializes in complex litigation, medical malpractice defense, personal injury, legal malpractice, real estate, corporate, probate and tax planning.
